February 12th – Life on a Nuclear Submarine
Speaker: Alec Elliot
Alec Elliot shares a fascinating insight into life beneath the waves aboard Royal Navy nuclear submarines. Joining the RN at just 17 years old, Alec spent his entire naval career serving on nuclear submarines, experiencing one of the most demanding and secretive environments in military life.
Today, Alec is also part of the team restoring a WWII Auster aircraft in the HGC hangar, bringing his passion for engineering and history full circle. A talk that combines personal experience, naval history, and technical insight.

March 12th – Captain Susan Slade ATA: A Remarkable Story
Speaker: Cathy Beale
Local historian and author Cathy Beale tells the powerful story of her great aunt, Captain Susan Slade of the Air Transport Auxiliary. Susan served as a ferry pilot during the Second World War, delivering aircraft vital to the war effort.
Her life was tragically cut short when she was killed while flying a Vickers Wellington bomber from RAF Little Rissington. This talk explores both Susan’s extraordinary service and the wider role of ATA pilots during the war.

Ant Risdon recounts his experiences flying in one of the most remote and challenging environments on Earth — Antarctica. A member of the Portway Group, Ant flew aircraft G-DINA for 14 years, supporting operations in extreme conditions.
This talk offers a rare glimpse into the realities of polar aviation, including navigation, weather challenges, and the unique demands placed on pilots and aircraft alike.

Teddy Bears Picnic

Join us for a fun-filled day at our Teddy Bear's Picnic! Bring your family, pack a hamper with your favourite treats, and don't forget your favourite teddy bear. We have activities planned from 11am to 3pm, so there's plenty of fun to be had.
Don't have a picnic? No problem! You can purchase food from our on-site café, offering delicious meals, drinks, and ice creams. .
Our event is accessible for all, with toilets available on site. Available refreshments include divine donuts, expedition coffee, party floss, cold drinks, and Mr. Whippy style ice creams from Meg.
We're proud to support The Teddy Trust. If you have a spare teddy bear, please bring it along to donate. You can learn more about The Teddy Trust and the wonderful work they do at their website: https://teddytrust.org.uk/
Our facilities include free parking, toilets with disabled facilities and baby change, and an on-site café serving hot meals.

Vintage Galore Fly-In
Vintage Galore Fly-In at Shobdon Airfield
Join us for a day of nostalgia and aviation history at our Vintage Galore Fly-In! This exciting event will showcase an array of vintage aircraft flying into Shobdon Airfield, celebrating the golden age of aviation.
Event Highlights:
A diverse lineup of vintage aircraft, including classic biplanes, warbirds, and other historic planes.
Refreshments available throughout the day, ensuring you can enjoy a meal or snack while soaking in the atmosphere.
Vintage cars and bikes will also visit the airfield through the day

Race the Runway!
Event Description: Race the Runway at Shobdon Airfield
Registration: https://www.entrycentral.com/RTR
Race the Runway gives the rare opportunity to run along the runway at Shobdon Aerodrome, but don't be fooled - the 10k route takes you around surrounding farmland and features some steady climbs, gravel tracks and field margins. There are some glorious views of the surrounding Herefordshire Countryside and the aerodrome at Shobdon. The last 836 meters to the finish line is along the runway - but don't worry it will be closed to planes!
The 2km fun run is completely level, a circular route, all on tarmac - starting at the end of the runway, taking you past the hangers and tower to the far end of the runway where you will be able to run down the entire runway to the finish line. This is a great opportunity to get a 2k PB if you are a runner, but is ideal for new runners or anyone who wants to take it a bit steady and take in the rare opportunity to jog or walk down a runway.

Small prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd male and female finishers of the 10k Race the Runway.
All participants in both the 10k and the fun-run will be entered into a draw to win a 20 minute trial flight in a 2 seater plane to be taken on a mutual future date.
A soft/hot drink and a snack will be included for all runners and refreshments will be available to purchase from the fabulous Megs Café for everyone who comes along.
Parking is close to the start/finish.
Minimum age for entries to the 10k is 17 years of age on race day.
There is no minimum age for the fun-run but all runners under the age of 12 run need to run with an adult, both need to be entered to the event

We are pleased to begin this year's events with a talk by Andrew Cox - Senior Inspector of Air Accidents (Engineering) with the AAIB
Andrew will be talking about the crucial role that the AAIB play in investigating, analysing and reporting on aircraft accidents.
The talk is free for all to attend and Meg will be providing meals from 18.00 with the talk beginning at 19.30.
To help Meg with planning the catering, please let us know if you would like to attend.

Cost per child is £10.00. Tickets available on Eventbrite. Under twos are free if accompanying a ticketed sibling.
The Santa workshop experience lasts one hour, at the workshop date and time you booked on checkout, and stated on your ticket.
The event is not weather dependant but the venue could be chilly so please dress the children accordingly. Having said that, please wear your Christmas clothes and costumes galore.
