March 12th – Captain Susan Slade ATA: A Remarkable Story
Speaker: Cathy Beale
Local historian and author Cathy Beale tells the powerful story of her great aunt, Captain Susan Slade of the Air Transport Auxiliary. Susan served as a ferry pilot during the Second World War, delivering aircraft vital to the war effort.
Her life was tragically cut short when she was killed while flying a Vickers Wellington bomber from RAF Little Rissington. This talk explores both Susan’s extraordinary service and the wider role of ATA pilots during the war.
